Week 1 - Calgary Alberta to Coeur d'Alene Idaho

Our general travel route for this week...

Well, we have finally embarked on this summer's road trip adventure. We had originally planned to do a cross Canada trip but for various personal reasons we were delayed in our departure date. We decided it was too late to do a nice leisurely trip across the country, take in much of the maritimes, have time to hit numerous ball parks in the north east and northern states and still be back in Calgary by the end of September. So, here we are heading back towards California.

Wednesday morning we left Calgary in a heavy downpour but by the time we got to our trailer storage place, west of the city, it had let up somewhat so we only got a "little" soaked hooking up the trailer before heading out west towards Banff. By the time we got into the mountains the rain was well behind us and we had a pleasant drive through to Radium and south to Fort Steele where we packed it in for the day. Along the way we stopped for a nice picnic lunch by the river at Vermillion Crossing.

We ended this first week with a 4 day stay at the Blackwell Island RV Resort on the shores of Lake Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. The park was quite a bit more packed than it was last time we stayed here but still a few  vacant spots. A couple of days we drove over to Spokane for some shopping and finally got around to taking the SkyRide gondola over the Spokane falls. The falls were quite spectacular. This is a fun thing to do.

Other than browsing the shops downtown Coeur d'Alene and relaxing around the trailer we also took the opportunity to swim in Lake Coeur d'Alene. Another first for us. They have a most excellent public beach right off downtown.

On to Week 2
